Activity 2 - Personal Competencies
Anchor stowage
The Atlantic 85 has a delta anchor, nine metres of chain
and 82 metres of warp. The stowage itself has drain holes
so can be washed out.
Bailey hatches
The deck has bailey hatches fitted to allow access to
inspect the hull. The centre most forward hatch (larger out
of the three) can be removed whilst ashore and the ballast
tank filled via a hose.
NOTE
If filling the ballast tank via a hose, it is vital to ensure
the correct bailey hatch is used.
Bow to stern fixtures, fittings and stowage
Fairlead
The bow fairlead is used to lead any ropes going forward of
the cleats out of the bow in order to reduce the damage to
the sponsons caused by the chaffing of lines. This must be
used whilst anchoring and towing alongside.
Sea anchor stowage
The sea anchor stowage has a spring latch which can be
opened at the stowage itself and the sea anchor manually
deployed. In the event of a capsize the sea anchor can be
deployed with the rope that runs down the starboard side
of the vessel or by using the handle on the transom.
