Technical Reference

Insert CAL

By using the dedicated preamplifi er NH-08, the NA-42 allows highly accurate 

calibration comprising the microphone and preamplifi er (Insert CAL).

Insert CAL function

The microphone sensitivity is determined under the assumption that the mi-

crophone is connected to a preamplifi er with infi nitely large input impedance 

and input capacitance of 0.

When calibrating the unit with an electrical signal, the microphone sensitiv-

ity minus a representative value for preamplifi er loss is taken as microphone 

sensitivity, and only the internal circuitry is calibrated. With Insert CAL on 

the other hand, a signal suitable for the microphone sensitivity is supplied 

directly to the microphone, and calibration takes into account the actual 

preamplifi er loss.
