SERVICE MANUAL
3.4.2 INSPECTING THE VTE/99 VALVE
The VTE/99 valve is checked to determine if the valves are capable of ensuring perfect seal of gas.
The operations you can carry out are the complete replacement of the valve and complete replacement of the
obturator group. After dismantling and taking the operative head apart proceed as follows:
1. Check the cylinder weight according to what is indicated on the label.
2. If the weight is included in the allowance limits the valve can be considered acceptable. An allowance of ±
55g is allowed.
3.
If the weight is not included in the allowance limits you must proceed as follows.
4.
Carry out visual check on the seal of the valve by immersing the whole valve body and the terminal part of
the cylinder’s neck in water. Check that there are no gas leaks from any component of the valve.
5.
If you do not see any kind of leak, empty out the cylinder (see checks on cylinder), replace the sealing
device, proceed to refilling (see 3.4.4) and check for leaks.
6.
If the leaks come from the coupling of valve- cylinder proceed to discharging the cylinder, replace the valve
as described in step 3.4.2.1 and refill again and check the seal of the new valve.
7.
If the leaks come from the sealing device proceed to discharging the cylinder, unscrew and replace the
sealing device (obturator) and proceed again to refilling and check the seal of everything.
3.4.2.1 REPLACING THE VTE/99 VALVE
If it is necessary to replace or reassemble the valve because of imperfection in the cylinder (see cylinder check)
you must proceed as follows for taking off and reassembling the valve:
1.
Discharge the cylinder.
2.
Unscrew the valve from the cylinder neck.
3.
Unscrew the plummet from the bottom of the valve and check its integrity.
4.
Clean the cylinder’s and the valve’s threading by blowing with compressed air. Also take away possible
impurity from the inside of the cylinder by banging the cylinder neck two or three times on a nylon plate.
5.
Put 19.5 mm width and 10/100 thick Teflon tape around the valve’s threading carrying out 11 turns around it
in clockwise direction looking at the threaded part.
6.
Reassemble the plummet.
7.
Tighten the valve body to the cylinder neck with 130 Nm torque.
8.
Insert the obturator group inside the valve body, but without tightening it.
9.
Refill the cylinder (see 3.4.4).
10.
After refilling the cylinder proceed to tightening the obturator applying 30 Nm torque using an 8 mm Allen
wrench and checking that the weight is included in the tolerance limits: + 20 g.
