The setting commands are looped through by the individual R&S UPZ so that each
instrument is addressed practically at the same time. Thus, the reaction time of the
switchers does not depend on the number of switchers connected. While the
addressed R&S UPZ executes the command and sets the desired channels, the
command is ignored by all other R&S UPZ and their channels previously closed are
opened.
In case of switcher cascading, ensure that all R&S UPZ connected are on. Otherwise,
the R&S UPZ that is off and those following it would no longer be recognized even if
they were on.
1.4.9 Setting the Instrument Address
On the rear panel of the R&S UPZ there is a coding switch, which is used to set the
device address (from 0 to 15). Each R&S UPZ of the same type is to be assigned an
own address. The setting is performed in the binary format.
panel cutout with the address switch. The channel range is linked to a set address.
This is shown in
. A special feature that is not mentioned in the table refers to
channel No. 0. Channel 0 can be set. In this case, all channels of all switchers
connected are opened. This is the default state.
All switchers of the R&S UPZ family are factory-set to address 0. If several switchers
are to be cascaded in a test setup, it is necessary to set the R&S UPZ of the same
type to different addresses in order to ensure correct operation.
It is recommended to select the R&S UPZ addresses in ascending order without a gap
in order to keep a convenient overview of the settable channel ranges of cascaded
switchers.
