1.4.6 Connection to the R&S UPV
The R&S UPZ is connected to the R&S UPL via a serial 9-contact RS-232-C extension
cable (
no
null modem cable) using the R&S UPL's COM1 interface.
In the R&S UPZ, the extension cable is plugged into the D-sub female connector
labelled "FROM PREVIOUS". When interconnecting the two instruments, ensure that
the cable has a good ground contact (screw connector casing) in order to avoid EMC
problems.
Starting from firmware version 3.2.x, the R&S UPV can also use its USB interface to
control the R&S UPZ. Both devices are connected using a USB Device cable.
Only one interface can be active at a time. A coexistent connection via USB and
RS232 is not possible. As soon as a USB cable is connected between the R&S UPV
and the R&S UPZ, the RS232 interface labelled "FROM PREVIOUS" is disabled.
Starting from variant .12 and .13 the R&S UPZ is equipped with an USB device
connection. Older models need to be controlled via RS232.
