+28V DC-DC Converter Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) (A7).
The +28V DC-DC converter (A7) provides reg28 VDC to the RF power amplifier (A6). The power converter
operates from a 10-32 VDC input.
5-2.7
Receiver-Transmitter.
Two receiver-transmitters are used in the tactical repeater. One is designated for receive operation and the other is
designated for transmit only. The type of receiver-transmitter used in the tactical repeater is a transceiver (combination
transmitter and receiver) capable of operating in the 30-88, 136-174, or 403-470 MHz frequency bands. The receiver-
transmitter used within the tactical repeater (RT-1695/TRC-199) differs from the standard receiver-transmitter (RT-
1696/U/(C)) only in that the repeater version does not have encryption/decryption capability. The tactical repeater is
COMSEC transparent and does not need to decrypt encrypted traffic prior to relaying it back out over the transmit
frequency.
Refer to TO 31R2-2PRC139-1 for additional information on the receiver-transmitter. TO 31R2-2PRC139-1 covers both
the RT-1695/TRC-199 and RT-1696/U(C) receiver-transmitters. Both receiver-transmitters are identical except the
RT-1696/U(C) is fitted with an INDICTOR COMSEC encryption/decryption integrated circuit and is designated a
Controlled Cryptographic Item (CCI). The RT-1696/U(C) receiver-transmitter, which is part of the AN/PRC-139(C) and
AN/GRC-238, shall not be used in the tactical repeater. The RT-1695/TRC-199 and RT-1696/U(C) receiver-transmitters
have different notches on the chassis base (part of the battery connector) which mate with matching notches in the
different units in which they are installed. This prevents inadvertent installation of the RT-1696/U(C) in the tactical
repeater.
5-2.8
Antenna System.
The antenna for the tactical repeater provides simultaneous transmit and receive capability. The antenna provides transmit
and receive frequency coverage over one of each of the bands of operation. Three antennas cover all of the frequency
bands of operation, 30-88, 136-174, and 403-470 MHz.
The antenna provides an average gain in each band as indicated in Table 5-1.
Table 5-1. Antenna System Frequency Band Vs Gain
Frequency Band
Gain
30-88 MHz
-7 dBi to +2 dBi
(-9.14 dB to -.14 dB relative to a 1/2 wavelength dipole - {dBD})
136-174 MHz
+2.5 dBi or greater (>+.36 dBD)
403-470 MHz
+2.5 dBi or greater (>+.36 dBD)
5-2.9
Diplexer.
The diplexer provides a method of using a receiver and a transmitter on a common antenna. The diplexer, when properly
tuned, provides a transmitter to receiver isolation of 70 dB at any frequency spacing of 4 MHz or 3% of the operating
frequency, whichever is greater. The diplexer has an insertion loss of less than 2.25 dB between the transmit port and
the antenna, and less than 3.0 dB between the receive port and the antenna. The diplexer is capable of handling 60 watts
of RF power in the transmit path and provides protection at the receive port to limit receive signals to a maximum level
of +33 dBm (for dBi, dBm, see Glossary).
5-2.10
AC/DC Power Supply (A2).
The AC/DC power supply enables the tactical repeater system to operate from the following power sources:
a.
External 115V 50/60 Hz AC
b.
External 230V 50/60 Hz AC
c.
External 10V to 32V DC
d.
Four self-contained replaceable batteries; type BA5590/U Lithium
