RECEIVING AND RETRANSMITTING MESSAGE.
Whenever the tactical repeater is turned on, it is capable of receiving messages and transmitting them (relaying them) back
out. Receive and retransmit messages as follows:
a.
Perform the initial power-up and diplexer tuning procedure of paragraph 4-3 to turn on the tactical
repeater and prepare it for operation.
b.
Set the MODE SELECT switch (6, Figure 4-1) to OP2WATT or OP10WATT.
c.
Ensure the receive receiver-transmitter is programmed with the proper type squelch settings to receive
the desired modulation format (carrier squelch or CTCSS tones).
d.
When a carrier with the proper modulation format is received by the repeater, the XMT LED (4, Figure
4-1) illuminates to verify proper transmit operation.
e.
If the receive receiver-transmitter is programmed for carrier squelch and the repeater receives a carrier
without CTCSS tones, with CTCSS tones or with encryption, the RCV LED (3, Figure 4-1) illuminates
to verify proper operation. If the receive receiver-transmitter is programmed for a CTCSS receive tone,
the RCV LED (3, Figure 4-1) illuminates only when a carrier with the correct CTCSS tone is received.
If the receive receiver-transmitter is programmed for a CTCSS receive tone and the repeater receives
an encrypted format, the RCV LED (3, Figure 4-1) will not illuminate; however, the encrypted message
is retransmitted and can be verified by observing that only the XMT LED (4, Figure 4-1) is illuminated.
4-5
COVERT OPERATIONS.
By placing the DISPLAY switch (1, Figure 4-1) in the OFF position, all LEDs on the front panel of the tactical repeater
are disabled to allow light discipline in blackout conditions. Turning off the LEDs also helps to conserve battery power.
4-6
RECEIVER-TRANSMITTERS.
For operating procedures for the receiver-transmitter, refer to TO 31R2-2PRC139-1. Disregard operating procedures for
secure mode.
4-7
EQUIPMENT SHUTDOWN.
Shut down the tactical repeater as follows:
a.
Place the AC/DC POWER switch (1, Figure 4-2) in the OFF position.
b.
Verify that the receiver-transmitter is off by confirming that the POWER LED is not illuminated when
the DISPLAY switch (1, Figure 4-1) is in the ON position.
Section III. EMERGENCY OPERATION
4-8
EMERGENCY POWER.
The tactical repeater can be powered directly from a battery installed in a vehicle for external power. Use the DC power
supply cable assembly (SS-4500109-501) with the positive cable lug connected to the positive battery terminal and the
negative cable lug grounded to the vehicle frame.
