E. Verification
Powder feeders are verified at the factory and should not require
reverification unless the motor or speed control is replaced. Contact
a
Praxair Surface Technologies Factory Representative in this event.
F. Powder Feeder RPM Fluctuations
If the powder feeder does not maintain a steady RPM level, the following
steps should remedy the situation.
1. If there is a large amount of powder under the powder wheel, or if
powder has migrated toward the shaft, the quad rings are worn.
Replace quad rings.
2. Replace all worn parts. Replacing a worn shaft and reinstalling the
quad rings results in continued gas leakage past the seal.
3. Check for proper lubrication of the quad rings and shaft. Lubricate
them lightly when replacing seals.
4. If the flange of the lower housing that protrudes into the powder
wheel loses its black anodizing and exposes the aluminum, replace the
bearing because powder has probably entered the internals of the
bearing.
5.
If no powder is apparent under the wheel or around the shaft, the most
likely problem is a defective drive motor control board. Replace board
(P/N 5004432).
5.2 Troubleshooting Chart
Table 5-2 is designed to diagnose and provide remedies for problems that
may develop in this powder feed hopper.
Use this table and the circuit diagram while performing troubleshooting
procedures. If the problem is not remedied after performing these
procedures, contact a Praxair Surface Technologies Factory
Representative. In cases of equipment malfunction, the manufacturer’s
recommendations must be strictly followed.
