Chapter 4
Booting problems with the new kernel
The kit installation rebuilds your kernel, but it saves your
existing kernel as
/vmunix.pre.KITNAME
, where
KITNAME
is the name of the kit.
To resolve booting problems
If your new kernel fails to boot properly after the driver
installation, you can boot the saved kernel at the boot
(SRM) prompt (replacing
KITNAME
with the name of
the kit):
>>>boot -fl s -fi /vmunix.pre.KITNAME
This boots single-user mode, using the previous kernel.
When the previous kernel comes up, uninstall
the kit. The X Window System probably will not
start with this kernel because the kit installation
also modifies the X Server configuration file
/var/X11/Xserver.conf.pre.KITNAME
. Call
DOME Customer Support for information about
the problems you have encountered.
