Chapter 3
Using the Default Monitor Mode
DOME configures PCI boards with a default monitor mode
before shipping them. When you use a DOME PCI board
as the boot console, you must connect the board to a moni-
tor capable of displaying this default monitor mode. See
“Changing the Console” on page 111 for information about
making the Md4/PCI board the console.
If you are using a Sun display board as the boot console,
you can use it to check the default mode programmed on
your Md4/PCI board. You can also use the Sun console to
change the default monitor mode on the Md4/PCI board.
To check the default mode
After you install the driver software package and reboot
your computer (if necessary), you can use the
video_mode
program to check the default monitor mode.
To use this program, change the directory to
/
opt/DOMEmd4pci/util
, and type:
video_mode -h
This command displays a help file that describes the usage
syntax for the
video_mode
program.
You can use the
video_mode
command to check whether a
default mode is programmed on your board. For example,
use this line of code to check whether a default mode is
programmed on the first board in the system:
video_mode -d /dev/md4pci0.0
The display resolution of the default monitor mode for
the Md4/PCI board is 1728 x 2304 pixels @ 69 Hz.
