4. Custom Configuration
The DRM-5004X CD-ROM Jukebox has four drive bays which can
hold a combination of Pioneer CD-ROM readers (DR-D504X) and writ-
ers (DR-R504X). A basic configuration often includes two CD-ROM
readers installed in the top two drive bays. This chapter describes how
to install additional an CD-ROM readers and/or writers into the next
available drive bays.
4.1 Custom Configuration Options
Decide which drives will be needed for a specific application. Two
Pioneer CD-ROM Readers are often installed in the basic DRM-5004X
configuration. Both readers and writers are shipped as optional com-
ponents to be added to the DRM-5004X CD-ROM Jukebox. With
additional readers installed, material can be selected in advance to
increase speed of delivery. With one or more writers installed, data
can be written to CD-R discs.
Usually, the readers are installed on one SCSI bus within the
Jukebox. The host computer accesses them through their own indi-
vidual SCSI ID addresses. A reader can be installed separately on its
own SCSI bus, however, then it does not have access to the changer
mechanism. A writer is usually installed on its own individual SCSI
bus so there are no interruptions while data is written to a CD-R disc.
See
Section 4.8, Making SCSI Connections
and
Section 4.9,
Optional SCSI Connections
.
Any combination of readers and writers can be installed consecutively
into the four drive bays of the DRM-5004X, beginning with drive bay
one. Assuming the unit has two readers installed in drive bays one
and two, the following pages describe how to install an additional
reader into drive bay three and a writer into drive bay four. A drive
can either be attached to one SCSI chain within the jukebox, or it can
be placed on its own individual SCSI bus.
4.2 Installing A CD-ROM Reader in Drive Bay Three
After the DRM-5004X has been set up and tested for a basic two
reader configuration, additional Pioneer CD-ROM readers and/or
writers may be installed. (Refer to
Chapter 3, Setting Up the
DRM-5004X Ñ Basic Two Reader Configuration
.
) Then, custom
configure the DRM-5004X by installing a reader into drive bay three.
