3.2.1
LEDs
Three LEDs on the module indicate communication status of the Ethernet module.
3.2.2
Communications watchdog
When using the Nanoline as an intelligent, real-time I/O device in a control application, it is
important to know if the communication connection to a master controlling device is
terminated. Since multiple Ethernet switches can be between the master and slave devices,
the physical link from the Nanoline to the nearest switch can be OK while the controller is
disabled, powered down or in a “program” mode.
The Ethernet module must receive a write data command within a specified watchdog time
period. The time delay for the communications watchdog is configured by the user in the
nanoNavigator configuration dialog box from 0.0 (OFF) to 25.5 seconds in 0.1-second
increments. The watchdog value is in the native integer format of the Nanoline.
If the watchdog times out, the “Communications Watchdog” status bit turns ON (transition
of watchdog 0>1) and is accessible to the flow chart program using Flag 090. When a
Modbus Write command is received, the watchdog bit is turned OFF.
3.3
Cellular communication
The Nanoline is capable of communicating on the Global System for Mobile
Communications (GSM) network, if the NLC-COM-GSM (Order No. 2701344) expansion
module is installed.
If the NLC-COM-CELLULAR-CDMA (Order No. 2400428) expansion module is installed,
the Nanoline is capable of communicating on the Verizon
®
wireless CDMA network.
