4.3.2.4 Establishing a connection
The factory configuration allows automatic data rate detection from 192 kbps to 5.696 Mbps
for each connection terminal block. A data rate from 32 kbps up to 15.3 Mbps can be set for
each connection terminal block via the configuration software.
After several unsuccessful attempts to establish a connection, the devices switch into emer-
gency mode (as of firmware version 3.0). This can take up to ten minutes. The route is then
established with a low data rate of 64 kbps and thus with a very high immunity. This ensures
that remote devices are accessible and can be configured.
Both "LINK" LEDs indicate the present connection stage of the device. If the "LINK" LED is
permanently on, the connection has been established.
The two "STAT" LEDs indicate the link quality. The longer the LED lights up, the better the
quality of connection (see page 38).
4.3.3 Connecting the shield
The cable that you use for the data transfer can be shielded. Use for example shield con-
nection terminal blocks SKS 20-SNS35, Order No. 3062809.
– For short routes in which no great differences in potential can be expected or
in which an equipotential bonding line is installed:
Connect the shield at both ends.
– For long routes:
Connect the shield only at one end to avoid compensating currents.
In the case of extremely long lines that are susceptible to interference, automatic detec-
tion of the data rate may not be possible. In this case, specify a fixed data rate via the
PSI-CONF configuration software.
Short flashing of the green "LINK" LEDs indicates that the DSL port is not disabled.
NOTE: Malfunction
Connect the DIN rail to protective earth ground using a grounding terminal block. The de-
vices are grounded when they are snapped onto the DIN rail (installation according to
PELV). This ensures that the shielding is effective. Connect protective earth ground with
low impedance.
