CAUTION
If you have moved the stage since setting the background position, a
dialog is displayed. If you click
Yes
, the stage will move and may cause
serious damage to the ATR crystal. If you click
No
, the current stage
position becomes the background position.

The spectrometer starts to scan and spectra are displayed as they are collected.
When scanning has finished, the results are displayed.
12.
Retract the ATR crystal.
Collecting a Sample Spectrum
The SpectrumIMAGE software enables you to collect line scans and maps and to collect
spectra at marked points using the ATR objective in Point mode. For information on how to
do this, refer to
Mapping
and
Line Scanning
in the on-screen Help.
1.
Retract the ATR crystal.
2.
Place the sample on the slide holding the reference mirror, or remove the reference
mirror slide from the stage and put a new slide with the sample on it on the stage.
3.
Make sure that
Point
mode
is selected on the Control dialog.
4.
Make sure that the imager is in reflectance mode by choosing
Reflectance
on the
Control dialog.
NOTE: Diffuse reflectance mode can also be used with the ATR crystal.
5.
Move the sample to the center of the field.
Even though the imager may not be focused on the sample, you can see a change in
the light intensity as the sample moves into the center of the field of view.
6.
Look at the image in the Monitor Visible window and focus on the sample using the
Z-control on the joystick, then move the area of interest into the center of the field of
view.
7.
Lower the ATR crystal to the working position.
Monitoring
Before you collect the sample spectrum, you should monitor the spectrum to make sure that
there is good contact between the crystal and the sample.
1.
In the Stage Control window, display the Scan menu and select
Monitor
.
The Monitor dialog is displayed.
2.
Click
Ratio
.
3.
Enter the
Scan Parameters
