44 . Spotlight 400 Series User’s Guide
Focusing the Visible Image
1. Click in the Stage Control window to move the sample stage to the Load position.
2. Place your sample on the sample stage.
3. If you want to examine the sample in reflectance mode, click
Reflectance
on the
Control dialog.
4. From the GoTo menu in the Stage Control window, select Center of Stage.
The sample stage moves so that the center of the sample stage is illuminated.
5. Use the Z-control on the joystick to focus on the sample.
You may need to change the illumination of the sample, or the correction.
OR
In the Focus section of the Control dialog, click
Auto
.
The image of the sample is focused.
6. If you need fine focus, use the
Focus
control on the Control dialog.
7. If you are examining the sample in transmission mode, you may need to adjust the
position of the lower cassegrain so that the field of view is evenly illuminated:
Adjust the
Correction
control by clicking on the up ( ) or down ( ) buttons.
OR
Select
Auto
in the Correction section of the Control dialog.
This is especially useful if the sample is in a compression cell or held between windows
of high refractive index.
NOTE: If your Spotlight 400 is supplied with an InGaAs detector and you are working in
transmittance at low magnification (large pixels), the SpectrumIMAGE software may
report an overload error when monitoring an IR function or collecting data. To
resolve this, fit a 32%T attenuator to the external beam window of the spectrometer.
See Fitting an Attenuator to the Spectrometer on page 45 for details.
This attentuator should be kept in place during data acquisition.
8. Adjust the
Illumination
on the Control dialog to give good illumination.
