70 . Spotlight 400 Series User’s Guide
The purge system consists of:
•
The gas inlet connector on the metal plate at the rear of the imager and the connector
at the rear of the spectrometer;
•
The purge coupling molding connecting the spectrometer to the imager;
•
The lower purge gaiter under the lower cassegrain.
When all of these parts are in place, the gas entering through the inlet displaces air from the
path of the infrared beam.
Purging the system
1.
Make sure that all parts of the purge system, as listed above, are in place.
2.
Set up the imager.

starting on page 39.
3.
Place the sample in position.
4.
Purge the imager and spectrometer for 15 to 20 minutes at a rate of 10 L min
−1
.
5.
Collect the background spectrum and the image of the sample.
See the on-screen Help for further information about collecting images.
Changing the sample
If you have changed a sample, any air that has entered the system must be flushed out.
