Setting up the Imaging System
CAUTION
For information about setting up your Spotlight 400 series imaging
system for use in ATR Imaging mode, refer to the Spotlight
ATR Imaging
Accessory User's Guide
(part number L1050048) on the Spectrum
Manuals CD (part number L1050002).
To avoid damaging the instrument, it is essential that you remove any
accessories, such as single-point ATR objective, and the lower cassegrain

BEFORE you select ATR Imaging mode.
To set up your Spotlight 400 series imaging system for use in Image mode or Point mode:
1.
Make sure the spectrometer is switched on.
It can take the spectrometer up to two hours to equilibrate after being switched off
overnight.
2.
Switch on the imager at the rear switch.
The blue LED light at the front comes on.
3.
Switch on the stage controller.
A light at the front comes on.
4.
At your PC, click
Start
and then select
SpectrumIMAGE
in the
SpectrumIMAGE
group
in the
PerkinElmer Applications
group under
Programs
.
The SpectrumIMAGE software starts. When the start-up animation finishes a dialog is
displayed, which may require login details.
5.
Enter your
Name
.
6.
Select the
Sampling Mode
from the drop-down list.
OR
Select
Work offline
if you just want to work with previously collected data.
7.
Make sure that the lower cassegrain is fitted, that if the ATR objective is fitted it is
retracted, and that there is no sample on the stage, then click
OK.
The imager initializes.
Focusing the Imager
The focus of the imager is changed by moving the sample stage up or down. The Z-control
on the joystick, or the Focus control on the Control dialog, enables you to focus the image in
the Monitor Visible window.
The default position for the lower cassegrain gives optimal illumination for thin samples. For
optimal performance it may be necessary to refocus the lower cassegrain to compensate for
the sample’s refractive index.
