Equipment Rack Installation
•
Mechanical loading
—Ensure that the rack-mounted device does not cause hazardous conditions
due to uneven mechanical loading.
•
Circuit overloading
—Ensure that the circuit that supplies power to the device is sufficiently rated
to avoid circuit overloading or excess load on supply wiring. See “Electrical Specifications and
Power Cords” on page 65.
•
Reliable earthing
—Maintain reliable earthing of rack mounted equipment. Pay special attention
to supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (such as use of power
strips).
2-Post Rack Installation
This section describes the required steps to install the PA-7050 firewall in a 2-Post rack.
1.
(Optional) Install the 2-post cable management brackets using the fives screws included with the
bracket. In a 2-post installation, the sides of the chassis should be exposed after installing the
chassis in the rack, so the brackets can also be installed after rack mounting. The following
illustration shows how the 2-post cable management brackets are installed:

2.
Lift the device and position it in the rack. It is recommended that two people perform this operation
using a mechanical equipment lift.
3.
Align the mounting holes on the side of the device with holes in the rack rail ensuring that the
chassis is level.
Note: The PA-7050 chassis and the front slot cards (SMC, LPC, NPC) ship in
separate boxes and it is recommended that you install the cards after the chassis is
rack mounted. This will prevent any damage to the cards that could occur during
rack mounting.
