• Installing the Hardware
Palo Alto Networks
•
Verify that the intended location has adequate air circulation and meets the temperature
requirements. See to “Environmental Specifications” on page 66.
•
Allow clear space on both sides of the device.
•
Unpack the equipment and verify that all items have been received. The PA-7050 ships on two
pallets and will contain the following items:
– The first pallet includes the PA-7050 chassis, installed power supplies (AC or DC), two fan
trays, the air filter, two cable management brackets, and the accessories kit.
– The second pallet will contain the following items:
›
Front slot cards, which include the Switch Management Card (SMC), Log Processing Card
(LPC), and at least one Network Processing Card (NPC).
›
Four AC power cords for the AC model. The DC model will have four DC power connectors
and one end of the power connector connects to the DC power supply and the other end will
have bare wires due to the variety of lengths and cable connections that may be required in
your environment. Grounding lug that attaches to the grounding point on the back of the
chassis.
›
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) wrist strip.
›
Management cable and serial connector.
•
Ensure that the proper power source is available to power all four power supplies. Two circuits
should be used for each pair of power supplies to provide redundancy and to allow for planned
electrical circuit maintenance. A copper grounding lug is provided to connect the ground point on
the back of the chassis to earth ground.
•
12mm or 1/2” socket wrench for the grounding lug.
•
Wear the provided Electrostatic Discharge strap when installing components or servicing the
PA-7050 hardware.
Equipment Rack Installation
This section describes the steps needed to install the PA-7050 firewall in a 2-post or 4-post standard 19”
equipment rack. Please read the cautions, warnings, and safety guidelines located in each section.
•
“2-Post Rack Installation” on page 25
•
“4-Post Rack Installation” on page 26
The following safety guidelines apply to rack installation:
•
Elevated ambient operating temperature
—If the PA-7050 is installed in a closed or multi-unit
rack assembly, the ambient operating temperature of the rack environment may be greater than the
ambient room temperature. Verify that the ambient temperature of the rack assembly meets the
maximum rated ambient temperature requirements listed in “Environmental Specifications” on
page 66.
•
Reduced airflow
—Ensure that the airflow required for safe device operation is not compromised
by the rack installation.
