Stopping:
Relaxing the muscles very slowly via the electrode causes the hand to stop in the
open position.
Example 1:
After opening, relax the muscle at slow speed. Closing is proportional to the
decline of the electrode signal. The object is gripped with low force.
Example 2:
After opening, relax the muscle at the fastest speed. The hand closes at the fastest
speed and starts grasping the object with the maximum gripping force (approx.
100 N).

Increasing electrode signal
Decline of the electrode signal
Gripping force: Proportional to the decline of
the electrode signal.
A maximum gripping force prevents the hand
from opening due to unintentional muscle sig
nals.

Control with one linear control element
Opening:
Proportional. The opening speed is determined by the speed and strength of the
pull on the linear control element.
Closing:
Proportional. The closing speed is determined by the speed and strength with
which the pull on the linear control element is relaxed.

2.2.1.4 Program 4: VarioDual
Control with: Two electrodes
With this program, the opening speed is determined by the level and speed of the muscle con
traction. The closing speed depends on the speed of muscle relaxation. The gripping force is
determined by the subsequent or simultaneous muscle signal on the second electrode.
Electrode 1:
Opening:
Proportional. The opening speed is determined by the speed and strength of the
muscle contraction.
Closing:
Proportional. The closing speed is determined by the speed and strength with
which the muscles are relaxed.
