5 Adapting
The initial fitting and application must be carried out by qualified personnel.
Therapy stage 1:
Open the belt tensioners (8) and the abdominal closure (3) and apply the brace. For optimum
adjustment of brace circumference and compression, the individual side parts (2), which are at-
tached to the brace by hook and loop closure, can be removed. To do so, remove the unneeded
side parts (equally wide) (2) on both sides (Fig. 7) and reattach the abdominal closure parts (3)
(Fig. 8) (the red line serves as a guide).
If necessary, the length of the strap (11) can be adjusted at the strap tensioner (9) (Fig. 9).
Therapy stage 2:
Open the mounting adapters (12) (Fig. 10) and remove the bridging element (5) (Fig. 11).
Therapy stage 3:
To remove the support element (4), release the strap holders (7), which are attached to the ab-
dominal closure parts (3) with clip rivets (8) (Fig. 12). Then remove the support element (4) with
strap (11) from the brace (Fig. 13).
Once the brace has been applied to the patient, check for proper placement, compression
and fit.
6 Application
Apply the lumbar brace with the red line on the inner side down such that the support element (4)
is positioned over the entire width of the back (Fig. 4).
To close the brace, put your fingers into the pockets of the abdominal closure (3), pull the brace
with equal force on both sides to the front, and attach the right part of the abdominal closure (3)
to the left part (Fig. 5). Next, apply equal tension to the support element (4) on both sides using
the strap tensioners (9) and attach the strap tensioners (9) to the upper right part of the abdominal
closure (3) with the hook and loop connection (Fig. 6). Make sure that the attachment surfaces of
the strap tensioners are completely on the abdominal closure and not in contact with clothing or skin.
Explain to the patient how to apply the brace and ensure its correct fit. Practice the application
and removal of the brace with the patient.
7 Side effects
Attention!
All aids – supports and braces – applied too tightly to the surface of the body may result
