8.2 BIOMETRY PROBE TEST
It is possible to run a test in order to check the operation of the probe and the
accuracy of the biometric measurement. This can be done using the small clear
cylinder in plastic (code 149001) showing the test measurement value in millimetres
and the tolerance (+/-0.1 mm.).
NOTE: the cylinder material (Plexiglas) is subject to thermal dilatation like all
materials. Therefore, the value indicated on the cylinder refers to an ambient
temperature ranging from 20 °C
to 25 °C.
For values below 20°C, subtract 0.1 mm from the rated value indicated on the label.
For values above 25
℃
, add 0.1 mm fr

In all cases, the cylinder temperature should not exceed 30°C because otherwise the
signal attenuation would not allow any automatic acquisition. For this reason, it is
advisable to place the cylinder on a surface without touching it or, alternatively, to hold
it only for the time strictly necessary to complete the measurement.
The recommended procedure is the following:
•
Open the Biometry session.
•
Select mode "Aphakic".
•
Apply a drop of ultrasound gel on the surface of the probe and distribute it
consistently on the cylinder.
•
Perform five measurements in automatic or manual mode.
If the alignment is correct, the echo will have the maximum amplitude and the
measurement will be acquired automatically. If the echo amplitude is insufficient to
"automatically freeze" the image, try increasing the GAIN.
