Selects type of connection
\N, \N0
Normal mode
, the modem operates in asynchronous buffer
mode. There is neither compression nor correction. DTE rates and
DCE rates may be different. (e.g. to make a V22bis connection, DTE
rate may be 19200 bps).
\N1
Direct mode
, data sent from DTE is sent directly on line (DCE),
like-wise on receive. There is no compression, no buffering and no
correction. DTE and DCE rates must be identical (e.g. to make a
V22bis connection, the terminal rate must be 2400 bps).
\N2
Security mode
, the modem negotiates error correction with the
remote modem. If the remote modem is not compatible with MNP4
or V42 protocols, the modem disconnects.
\N3
Auto-security mode
, the modem negotiates error correction with
the remote modem. If the remote modem is not compatible with
MNP4 or V42 protocols, modem switches to normal mode (Case
\N0) (default setting).
\N4
Security mode
, the modem negotiates error correction with the
remote modem. If the modem is not compatible with the V42
protocol, modem disconnects.
\N5
Security mode
, the modem negotiates error correction with the
remote modem. If the remote modem is not compatible with the
MNP4 protocol, the modem disconnects.
Note 1 : \N2,3,4,5 commands initiate &Q5 (security mode), the \N0 command initiates
&Q6 (normal mode), the \N1 command initiates &Q0 (direct mode).
