Problems
and solutions
You cannot dial
• The telephone plug is not plugged
into the wall telephone socket.
• The telephone switchboard can only
receive pulse or tone dialling.
• The serial port number is wrong.
• The incorrect cable has been used
to connect the external modem to
the PC.
• You have not entered the prefix for
obtaining an outside line through
the switchboard.
Dialling is correct but nothing is
displayed on the screen
• The IRQ is incorrect.
• There is interference between your
modem card and another card.
See IRQ.
• The data rate or data format is
wrong.
If you do not know the port number (COM
and IRQ) to which your modem or Minitel is
connected, use the MAPCOM programme
supplied with OLICOM.
Start this programme from DOS by typing:
C:\OLICOMW>MAPCOM then enter
This programme detects serial port activity. If
your modem or Minitel is correctly connec-
ted its parameters will be displayed on the
screen.
If you have an external modem
Connect your modem to a free serial port
(COM1 or COM2)
