PART 3 - REPLACING THE RETURN STRAP
If replacing the return strap follow the procedure below. This procedure is assuming that the return
system has been disconnected and the old return strap removed as set out in PART 1 - DISCONNECTING
THE RETURN SYSTEM of the REPLACING THE DRIVE STRAPS instructions.
Attach the new return strap to the spool pulley paying attention to the direction of attachment to the
spool ie. opposite to the drive strap - open end to the left/closed length to the right. It will be necessary to
loosen the tension on the drive strap to create space behind the return strap clamping pin for the return
strap to be easily inserted. A small screwdriver can be used to assist in opening the slot for the return
strap. Insert the strap until it is in line with the machined flat on the drive spool pulley.
Fold out the drive arm into the operational position with the brace arm connected.
Wind the drive strap onto the spool as tight as possible with the oar pressing hard onto the drive arm.
While holding this position and reasonable tension on the drive strap, clear the opposite turns that might
be on the return strap spool until there are zero turns around the return spool by the return strap.
Wind 2 turns of the return strap around the return spool in a clockwise direction and leave the open
length draped over the frame ready to connect back to the return bungy rigging plate. The tension on the
drive belt can now be released.
If replacing both drive straps at the same time, repeat this process with the other side of the machine.
