Power management
29
If the power usage exceeds the power budget, then the power to the
previous module is turned off.
If you configure slot priorities, the system powers off the slot with the
lowest priority. If a port exceeds the slot power, the system powers off the
offending port. When a power over-usage occurs, the system uses an
SNMP trap to send a message to the user interface.
If the system has only one power supply unit, then the system is not
running with power supply redundancy.
If the system has two power supply units, the system will be considered to
have redundant power supply only when all the following three constraints
are satisfied:
•
if the total power consumed by the chassis is less than the total power
supplied by one power supply unit.
•
if the total 3.3 V power consumed by the chassis is less than the total
3.3 V power supplied by one power supply unit.
•
if the total 12 V power consumed by the chassis is less than the total
12 V power supplied by one power supply unit
If the system has three power supply units, then the system is considered
to have power supply redundancy.
In redundancy mode, the system compares the total chassis power
consumed against the total chassis power available and verifies that if
one power supply fails, enough power remains to operate the chassis and
components. If, after one power supply failure, the remaining power is
insufficient to operate the chassis and all components, the system sends
an SNMP trap to the receiver and a CLI message informs you that the
switch is no longer operating in redundant mode. By default, the trap
notification for redundancy is disabled.
For information on configuring power management using the CLI,
NNCLI and Device Manager, see Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 8600
Administration (NN46205-605) .
To display the total power the switch uses and the total power the power
supplies provide, see Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 Administration
