APPENDIX C
Using Boot Manager
IP100 Series NAPs incorporate a boot manager in one partition of the
system disk to control the boot-up process. The boot manager performs a
number of functions:
•
Provides commands that allow you to boot alternate kernels, possibly
from alternate NAPs
•
Enables you to install new versions of IPSO (the operating system)
•
Examines the system disk
•
Performs various housekeeping tasks
When you first boot your IP100 Series NAP, the boot manager uses
default parameters (kernel, boot device, etc.) for the boot process. The
defaults cause the NAP to bypass the boot manager’s prompt after a five-
second wait. You can change these defaults to reflect your own needs, or
you can use different parameters in the command line at boot time. The
boot manager maintains the default values of these parameters in its disk
partition. You can set these values using boot manager commands.
This appendix describes boot manager commands. These are UNIX-type
commands entered from the console.
