Introduction to the Nikon Scanner Plug-in
Introduction
The Nikon Scanner plug-in software provides the novice or expert user with a
simple to use, fast and effective scanning tool for use with Nikon scanners. The Nikon
Scanner plug-in is the core software module of the scanning system, providing a stan-
dardized user-interface to control Nikon scanners from within various imaging applica-
tions.
As you have seen in the previous chapters of this manual, use of the Nikon
Scanner plug-in requires that a compatible imaging application program be installed on
your system.
For Macintosh computers, the plug-in can be used with any application that can
access a Photoshop plug-in. Nikon cannot guarantee proper operation with applications
not providing full support for Adobe Photoshop plug-ins. Please contact your applica-
tion vendor to determine the level of Photoshop plug-in compatibility. If, however, you
wish to use an application that does not provide full support for Adobe Photoshop plug-
ins, select the Version 1 plug-in from the Tools dialog box, shown starting on pg. 67 of
this reference. Note that the disk space feature will not provide accurate readings when
using the Version 1 plug-in.
You have seen a simple imaging software application is provided for use with
Nikon scanners called Nikon Control. This application was developed specifically to
use the Nikon Scanner plug-in.
For IBM PC or compatible computers running Windows, the plug-in can be
used with Photoshop/PC, Picture Publisher, Nikon ImageAccess, or PhotoStyler. You
have seen a simple imaging software application is provided with Nikon scanners called
Nikon Control. This application was developed specifically to use the Nikon Scanner
plug-in.
This chapter provides a thorough description of the Nikon Scanner plug-in,
including how to access the plug-in from your application, and a description of how to
interact with the various types of dialogs and controls. Some of the material covered
here has been introduced in previous chapters, so you will already be familiar with
certain parts.
Launching the Nikon Scanner
Macintosh: For Macintosh users, to access your Nikon Scanner plug-in you must
first launch your imaging application, such as Photoshop, shown in Figure 7.1.
