Producing a Scan
This chapter will take you through the ten basic steps in performing a scan using
either the Nikon Control or third-party application with the Nikon Scanner plug-in
software. It will introduce you to scanning and the scanner controls in more detail than
in the “Getting Started” chapters. This chapter assumes that the Nikon Control stand-
alone application and/or Nikon Scanner plug-in have been properly installed, and the
Main Scan dialog is open.
The ten steps to a quick scan are as follows:
Step 1.
Insert the slide into the scanner
Step 2.
Launch the application program
Step 3.
Select the film type and orientation
Step 4.
Perform a preview scan
Step 5.
Select the size (dimensions) of the scan
Step 6.
Select the final resolution of the scan
Step 7.
Select the area to scan
Step 8.
Perform a final scan
Step 9.
Name the file
Step 10.
Eject/Remove the slide
These ten steps are described here in greater detail.
Step 1. Insert the slide into the scanner
The first step required is, of course, to insert the slide into the scanner. Selecting
and orienting the scanned image is described in detail in Chapter Twelve of this manual.
Step 2. Launch the application program
Macintosh: Launch the Nikon Control software by double-clicking on its icon.
The Nikon Scanner plug-in will then be loaded and the Main Scan dialog displayed.
If you are using the Nikon Scanner plug-in with a third-party application that
supports Photoshop plug-ins, select the
