positive or negative film type is selected, there are four gamma curves, represented by the
Red, Green, Blue and Master curves. If either a black and white positive or negative film
type is selected, there is only one gamma curve, represented by the Monochrome curve.
If the gamma curves are modified in the Gamma Curve Editor dialog, and if the
Gamma Curve Editor dialog is quit using the
D
ONE
button (as opposed to the
C
ANCEL
button), the Nikon Scanner plug-in anticipates that you wish to download these new
curves to the scanner before the next scan. The plug-in will indicate to you that it will
send these curves to the scanner before the next scan by placing a check in the
C
USTOM
check box.
Macintosh: The plug-in remembers the state of custom gamma curves. When
you exit the plug-in, these curves will be saved in the preferences file. The next time the
plug-in is run, these custom curves will be loaded.
Note that you can return to the factory default gamma settings at any time by
deleting the plug-in preferences file, which is located in the preferences folder.
Windows: Note that you can return to the factory default gamma settings at any
time by deleting the plug-in’s NKNCTRL.INI file, which is located in the “Nikon”
directory.
Changing Your Mind
If you decide that you don’t want to send new gamma curves to the scanner, you
can abort the operation by clicking in the
C
USTOM
check box, removing the check
mark.
Similarly, if the plug-in has custom gamma curves available, you can reselect these
after deselecting them. This is accomplished by clicking in the
C
USTOM
check box after
the check was removed. For example, suppose that you have changed the gamma curves
and quit the Gamma Curve Editor dialog by clicking on
D
ONE
. This will cause the
C
USTOM
check box to be checked. You can un-check this box again by clicking on it.
This check box can be toggled as many times as is necessary. The custom curves will not
be altered, just switched on or off.
