Vibration reduction ( V R
II
) reduces blur caused by ca m era
shake , allo w ing shutter speeds up to f our stops slo w er than
w ould other w ise be the case ( Nikon m easure m ents; e ff ects
vary w ith the photographer and shooting conditions ). This
increases the range o f shutter speeds available and per m its
hand-held , tripod- f ree photography in a w ide range o f
situations .

• When using vibration reduction , press the shutter-release
button hal fw ay and w ait f or the i m age in the vie wf inder to
stabilize be f ore pressing the shutter-release button the rest
o f the w ay do w n .
• When the ca m era is panned , vibration reduction applies only
to m otion that is not part o f the pan ( i f the ca m era is panned
horizontally , f or e x a m ple , vibration reduction w ill be applied
only to vertical shake ), m aking it m uch easier to pan the
ca m era s m oothly in a w ide arc .
• When vibration reduction is active , the i m age in the
vie wf inder m ay be blurred a f ter the shutter is released . This
does not indicate a m al f unction .
Select ON to enable vibration reduction . Vibration
reduction is activated w hen the shutter-release
button is pressed hal fw ay , reducing the e ff ects
o f ca m era shake f or i m proved f ra m ing and f ocus .
Select OFF to turn vibration reduction off .
