Planning Your Deployment
Before installing Netscape Certificate Management System (CMS) in any real-life
deployment, you first need to plan all aspects of the proposed installation. It’s
important to consider all potential issues carefully before installation. Omissions or
faulty assumptions in the planning process can cause severe problems later.
This chapter provides an overview of the most important decisions you need to
make. Many of these decisions are interdependent; for example, the question of
whether a Certificate Manager is subordinate affects its distinguished name (DN)
as well as its validity period, extensions, and place in the CA hierarchy.
As you begin to make decisions about your deployment strategy, you can use

supply during the installation and configuration of individual subsystems.
