handshake
A protocol that allows devices to exchange informa-
tion about the connection between them, such as
when to start exchanging data.
icon
An image that graphically represents an object,
concept, or message.
initialization
A state where all settings return to their default
values.
justification
Making all full lines of text the same length in order
(right)
to create an even right edge.
lpi
Lines per inch.
moisture content
The ratio of moisture to the dry mass of paper.
Moisture content varies for different paper types and
may change considerably if open paper is subjected
to temperature and humidity extremes. The
gravimetric method measures the relative moisture
level by weighing the paper, oven drying it, then
reweighing it. The calculated result is expressed as a
percent value.
monospaced font
Any font in which the width of characters is the same
for all font characters.
opacity
The amount of printed matter that shows through on
the reverse side of a sheet of paper.
outline font
Outline fonts are collections of font metrics which
can be used by a rasterizer to generate various
bitmap data for target engines on the fly. For
example, TrueType, PostScript Type 1, Intellifont,
etc.
peripheral device
Any device (such as a printer) that you attach to your
computer.
