4-4 Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Mouse
Under normal conditions, the mouse has a self-cleaning mechanism that prevents a buildup of dust
or lint around the mouse ball and tracking mechanism. Periodically, however, the mouse ball must
be cleaned. Use the following procedure to clean the mouse.
1.
Unplug the mouse from the system unit.
2.
Turn the mouse upside down and locate the mouse ball cover (see Figure Section 4-2).
3.
Turn the ball cover counterclockwise and remove the cover.
Figure Section 4-2 Removing the Mouse Ball Cover
4.
Turn the mouse over and remove the ball.
5.
Clean the mouse as follows:
n
Clean the mouse ball with tap water and a mild detergent, then dry it with a lint-free
cloth.
n
Remove any dust and lint from the mouse socket.
6.
Replace the mouse ball in its socket.
7.
Replace the ball cover and turn it clockwise until it locks in place.
