Problems and Solutions
Problem Symptom Solution
2. Replace the CMOS battery if the date and
time must be set each time the system is
powered on (see Chapter 3).
System halts during loading
sequence. 1. Power the system off. Check for proper
jumper settings (see Chapter 2), then power-
on the system.
2. Check condition of selected bootload
device (diskette, CD-ROM disc, hard drive)
for bad boot track or incorrect operating
system files.
3. Try booting operating system from
diskette or disc, or recopy operating system
files onto hard drive.
4. Verify that correct hard drive is selected.
External diskette
drive does not work Lamp on external USB diskette
drive unit does not light when
diskette is loaded. 1. Check the USB cable connection.
2. Replace diskette drive.
3. Replace system board.
Hard drive
malfunction Optical/hard drive lamp does not
light but hard drive can be
accessed. 1. Check interface cable connections at
drive and system board.
Hard drive controller failure
message displayed. 1. Check that the IDE channel and hard
drive are enabled in Setup (see Chapter 2).
Cannot access hard drive. 1. Check interface cable connections
between hard drive and system board.
2. Check AC power adapter. Replace as
necessary.
3. Check hard drive jumper settings and
BIOS hard drive settings.
4. Check if hard drive was transferred
between systems and that the password
security feature is enabled in the BIOS.
5. Check hard drive. Replace as necessary.
Memory malfunction Memory not recognized. 1. Reseat SO-DIMM (see Chapter 3).
2. Replace SO-DIMM (see Chapter 3).
3. Replace system board (see Chapter 3).
LAN malfunction No output. 1. Check cable connections at system board
and interface board (see Chapter 3).
2. Replace LAN cable (see Chapter 3).
3. Replace interface board (see Chapter 3).
4. Replace system board (see Chapter 3).
