2-6 Setup and Configuration
BIOS Setup Utility
Use the Phoenix
®
Technologies Ltd. BIOS Setup utility program to configure the main
components of the system.
The system ships from the factory with the correct system parameters for the configuration.
Unless optional hardware is added, it is not necessary to run the BIOS Setup utility to operate
the system. However, you should run the BIOS Setup utility to set features that customize the
system, such as security features.
NEC Solutions (America), Inc. recommends that the current BIOS Setup parameters be printed
out or written down and the information stored in a safe place. This lets you restore the system
to the current parameters if you need to clear CMOS or you are replacing the CMOS battery (see
the previous section, “Jumper Settings” or see “CMOS Battery Removal” in Chapter 3).
How to Start BIOS Setup
Start the BIOS Setup utility as follows.

Turn on or reboot the system.
2.
Press
F2
immediately at bootup.
How to Use Setup
The BIOS Setup utility has a Main menu window and top-level menus with submenus. The
menu bar at the top of the Main menu window lists the following top-level menus.
Main
Use the Main menu for basic system configuration. For example, select Main to set
the system date, set drive parameters, set keyboard features, or check memory parameters.
Advanced
Use the Advanced menu to set the system for Plug and Play, PCI
configuration, serial port and printer port addresses and interrupts, I/O device configuration,
quick boot mode, USB 2.0 mode, DMI event logging, and more.
Security
Use this menu to set user and supervisor passwords, security mode, password
on boot, network boot, and virus check.
Power — Use the Power menu to configure the system power switch as a power button or
sleep button, to set resume wakeup time, and to set how the system restores power on AC or
after a power loss.
Boot — Use this menu to set boot options, including boot sequence and the assignment of
drive letters to removable devices.
Exit
Use this menu to exit the Setup utility. Various save or discard exit options are
available.
