4-48 Disassembly and Reassembly
Removing the System Board and Processor
Retention Module
!
CAUTION
The system board can be extremely sensitive to ESD
and always requires careful handling. After removing
it from the system, place it component-side up on a
nonconductive, static-free surface to prevent shorting
out the battery leads. Do not slide the system board
over any surface.
1.
Power down the system and remove both side panels as described earlier in
this chapter.
!
CAUTION
Observe static precautions.
2.
Tag and remove any option boards installed.
Note:
The option boards must be reinstalled in the
same slots when you reassemble the system.
3.
Tag and disconnect interface and controller cables connected internally to
the system board.
4.
Tag and disconnect the power cables connected to the system board.
5.
Tag and disconnect cables connected externally to the I/O connectors at the
rear of the system.
6.
Tag and disconnect the speaker cable from the system board.
7.
Tag and disconnect the power on switch cable from the system board.
8.
Tag and disconnect the reset switch cable from the system board.
9.
Remove the screw securing the system board mounting bracket to the
chassis (see A in Figure below).
10.
Carefully move the board sideways slightly towards the front of the cabinet
so that it clears all its mounting hole hooks. Then lift the system board out of
the chassis and place it component-side up on a nonconductive, static free
surface.
