NOTE

l

If  metal  objects  or  other  keys  are  near  the
keyless operation key, the keyless operation
key may not be recognized.

l

Instead  of  depressing  the  brake  pedal,  the
keyless operation key can also be recognized
in  the  same  way  within  approximately  30
seconds after pushing the engine switch.

l

To change the operation mode without start-
ing  the  engine,  release  the  brake  pedal
(CVT) or the clutch pedal (M/T) after the in-
dication  lamp  on  the  engine  switch  illumi-
nates  in  green,  and  then  press  the  engine
switch.

Gasoline particulate filter
(GPF)

The gasoline particulate filter (GPF) is a de-
vice that captures most of the particulate mat-
ter (PM) in the exhaust emissions of the pet-
rol  engine.  The  GPF  automatically  burns
away  trapped  PM  during  vehicle  operation.
Under  certain  driving  conditions,  however,
the  GPF  is  not  able  to  burn  away  all  of  the
trapped  PM  and,  as  a  result,  an  excessive
amount of PM accumulates inside it.

WARNING

l

The GPF reaches very high temperatures.
Do  not  park  your  vehicle  in  areas  where
combustible  materials  such  as  dry  grass
or  leaves  can  come  in  contact  with  a  hot
exhaust system since a fire could occur.

CAUTION

l

Do not use any type of fuel or engine oil that
is  not  specified  for  your  vehicle.  Also,  do
not use any moisture-removing agent or oth-
er fuel additive. Such substances could have
a  detrimental  effect  on  the  GPF.  Refer  to
“Fuel  selection”  on  page  2-02  and  “Engine
oil” on page 10-04.

NOTE

l

To minimize the likelihood of excessive ac-
cumulation  of  PM,  try  to  avoid  driving  for
long  periods  at  low  speeds  and  repeatedly
driving short distances.

l

The  engine  sounds  slightly  different  than
usual  while  the  GPF  automatically  burns
away trapped PM. The change in the engine
sound does not indicate a fault.

GPF warning display

The  GPF  warning  display  will  appear  in  the
event of an abnormality in the GPF system.

NOTE

l

The  “PF  SYSTEM”  warning  display  indi-
cates the GPF system.

If the GPF warning display ap-

pears during vehicle operation

The  accumulated  PM  in  the  GPF  must  be
burned away.
To burn away the PM, try to drive the vehicle
as follows.
With the bar graph of the engine coolant tem-
perature  display  stabilized  in  roughly  the
middle  of  the  scale,  drive  for  20  to  30  mi-
nutes at a speed of at least 60 km/h while ac-
celerating  and  decelerating  intermittently.
When the accelerator pedal is released to de-
celerate,  the  accumulated  PM  in  the  GPF  is
burned away.
