Functions of Desert-ESP ®
& WARNING Risk of accident in drive pro‐
gram Desert due to restricted function of
the ESP ®
Not all functions of the ESP
®
are available in
the Desert drive program, e.g. the stabilisa‐
tion function is deactivated, among others.
The wheels can lock while braking and the
braking distance is increased.
Only use the Desert driving program on sand
and not on public roads.
% The availability of the Desert drive program
is country-dependent.

is automatically activated when you
select the Desert drive program with the
DYNAMIC SELECT switch (

page 151).

Activating/deactivating ESP ® (Electronic Sta‐
bility Program)

To deactivate ESP ® : press button 1 until
the å ESP ® OFF warning lamp lights up in
the instrument cluster. The ÷ OFF mes‐
sage appears in the multifunction display.

To activate ESP ® : briefly press button 1 .
The å ESP ® OFF warning lamp in the
instrument cluster goes out.
Observe the information on warning lamps and
display messages which may be shown in the
instrument cluster.
Function of ESP
®
trailer stabilisation
& WARNING Risk of accident in poor road
and weather conditions
In poor road and weather conditions, the
trailer stabilisation cannot prevent lurching of
the vehicle/trailer combination. Trailers with
a high centre of gravity may tip over before
ESP
®
detects this.
