Operation of the ECO start/stop function
All vehicles except E 350
The engine is automatically switched off if the
following conditions are met:

Vehicles with manual transmission: If you
brake the vehicle, shift into neutral

travelling at a low speed and then release the
clutch pedal.

Vehicles with automatic transmission: If
you brake the vehicle to a standstill in trans‐
mission position

If all vehicle conditions for an automatic
engine stop are met.
The

symbol appears in the multifunction
display when the vehicle is stationary. If not all
vehicle conditions are met, the

appears in the multifunction display.
The engine is restarted automatically if:

Vehicles with manual transmission: You
depress the clutch pedal.
R
Vehicles with automatic transmission: In
transmission position

, you release the
brake pedal when the HOLD function is not
active.

Vehicles with automatic transmission:
You shift out of transmission position

You depress the accelerator pedal.

An automatic engine start is necessary.
If the engine was switched off by the ECO start/
stop function and you leave the vehicle, a warn‐
ing tone sounds. The
Vehicle is operational
Switch off the ignition before exiting

message also appears in the multifunction dis‐
play.
If you do not switch off the ignition, the ignition
is automatically switched off after one minute.

The engine is switched off automatically in the
following situations if all vehicle conditions for
an automatic engine stop are met:

You brake the vehicle to a standstill in trans‐
mission position

You engage transmission position

You depress the brake pedal when driving at
speeds below 20 km/h.
The needle of the rev counter points to zero in
the multifunction display.
The engine is restarted automatically if:

You release the brake pedal with the trans‐
mission in position

when the HOLD func‐
tion is not active and the vehicle does not
start to move on a gentle downhill gradient.

You engage transmission position

R
You release the brake pedal and the vehicle
starts to move on a gentle downhill gradient
at a speed below 5 km/h.
