8. Repeat the previous steps to assemble the other rail and mount it at the other side of the chas-
sis. Once assembled, the rails are ready for chassis installation.
4.1.1.4 Installing the Grounding Stud
The switch is delivered with a grounding stud kit. No grounding connection is necessary when
fewer than two power supplies are installed.
The grounding kit includes the following items:
•
A 10-32 5/8" screw
•
3 spring washers
•
2 nuts #10
•
Ground label
•
Safety warning label.
The Vantage 8500 switch has two grounding connections (grounding holes) as shown. For conve-
nience, grounding can be performed from either of these locations.
Ensure box-to-box vertical alignment in all four connections. See that the bottom side of
the rail is aligned with the 1U marking on the rack rail.
•
Carefully read the safety warnings at the beginning of this document.
•
Grounding connection is performed at the customer's site. Connect the chassis to a
reliable earth ground. Ensure that the host is connected to earth ground during nor-
mal use.
•
As a rule of thumb, remember that the ground wire should ALWAYS be the FIRST
thing you hook up, and the last thing that you disconnect.
•
Never defeat the ground conductor or operate the equipment in the absence of a suit-
ably installed ground conductor. Contact the appropriate electrical inspection
authority or an electrician if you are uncertain that suitable grounding is available.
