RIGGING OPTION 4: FLOWN MINI ARRAY, WITH MSX SUB(S) ON FLOOR
Arrays comprised of four, eight, twelve or sixteen MLA Mini cabinets may be flown using the
Flying Frame. This rigging option assumes that the MSX subs will be positioned on the stage,
or platform or in some other suitable location. Cable lengths should be borne in mind from
the outset with this option, as the standard length cables will not be long enough and either
extension cables or custom length cables will be needed.
Note that it is also possible to fly a four-cabinet array using the Universal Tilt Bracket. See
Rigging Option 4a below.
When the MSX sub is used in isolation there is no necessity to fit the Ground Stack Baseplate
to it.
This rigging option is suitable for use with Preset 5 when using a 4+1 configuration.
The Flying Frame allows a Mini array to be suspended using either one or two chain hoists. The
Flying Frame may be fitted with a clinometer to allow the tilt of the array to be set accurately.
Rigging with a single hoist is quicker and simpler; however, the tilt angle achieved will not be as
accurate as with two hoists.
The weight of the MLA Mini cabinet is such that even a 16-cabinet array with four MSX subs
should not exceed the safe working limit of a normal hoist. Weights of the arrays and the Flying
Frame are summarised below.
It is essential that the safe working load of any hoist(s) used
should be checked in all situations before rigging commences.
Weight (kg)
Weight (lbs)
Flying Frame
17 kg
38 lbs
4-cabinet array
54 kg
121 lbs
8-cabinet array
108 kg
242 lbs
12-cabinet array
162 kg
363 lbs
16-cabinet array
216 kg
484 lbs
Note that the order of cabinets in a flown array is effectively reversed relative to their order in a
Pole Mount or Ground Stack configuration. Thus the top cabinet in the array is assembled first.
