8. Mains Switch - turns the unit’s mains supply off and on. Merlin has a universal PSU
suitable for connection to any mains voltage between 100 and 240 V AC.
9. Mains Inlet - connection to the Merlin is via a captive cable fitted with a UK 13A
mains plug. For other territories a suitable approved mains adaptor must be used.
Alternatively the UK plug may be removed and an alternative mains plug wired in its
place by a suitably qualified electrical engineer. Wire the plug as follows:
Brown: Live
Blue: Neutral
Green/Yellow: Earth (Ground)
10. ETHERNET - the primary PC connection is via a standard RJ45 Ethernet port. This can
be wired either directly to a PC, or to a wired or wireless Ethernet switch. The Ethernet
connection is suitable for a standard 100Base-T computer network. Standard Cat 5
patch cables with RJ45 connections may be used to connect between the Merlin and
a PC or an Ethernet switch.
11. U-NET PORTS –two Neutrik® Ethercon RJ45 connectors; these form the “start” and
“end” of the redundant network ring. U-Net connections also use Cat 5 cables. If long
cable runs are required (e.g., to flown MSX subs), a robust Cat 5 cable should be used
such as Neutrik Etherflex or Belden 1304A, with Neutrik Ethercon RJ45 connectors.
This will ensure reliable network connections up to 105 metres.
12. U-Net activity indicators - a pair of LEDs indicating data activity on the two U-Net
ports.
The remaining rear panel connectors are concerned with Merlin’s audio and DSP functions,
which are not essential for use with an MLA Mini system.
