Snapping layers to the grid
Use the grid as a visual guide for positioning or resizing layers in the Document
window. You can turn this grid on to use as a guide when you draw your layers.
You can also have your layers automatically snap to the grid, and change the grid
or control the snapping behavior by specifying grid settings. Snapping works
regardless of whether the grid is visible.
To display the grid, do one of the following:
•
Choose View > Grid > Show Grid.
•
Choose View > Grid > Edit Grid and select the Show Grid option.
To snap a layer:
1
Choose View > Grid > Snap To Grid to turn snapping on (or to turn it off ).
2
Select the layer and drag it. The layer jumps to the nearest snapping position.
To change grid settings:
1
Click View > Grid > Edit Grid to open the Grid Settings dialog cell.
2
Do any of the following:
•
Click the arrow next to the color swatch and select a color from the palette or
type the hexadecimal number in the cell. This controls the color of the grid lines.
•
Select Show Grid to show the grid in the Document window.
•
Select Snap to Grid to enable snapping.
•
Type the amount of spacing you want and select Pixels, Inches, or Centimeters
from the pop-up menu. This controls how far apart the grid lines will appear.
•
Choose lines or dots for the grid lines.
3
Click Apply to view the changes, then OK to close the dialog box.
Making layers active
Before you place objects in a layer, you must activate the layer. Activating a layer
places the insertion point in the layer, highlights the layer’s border, and displays
the selection handle, but it does not actually select the layer.
To activate a layer:
Click anywhere inside the layer.
