Detaching a document from a template
To make changes to both the locked and editable regions of a page that uses a
template, you must first detach the page from the template. When the page is
detached, it becomes a normal document, with no editable or locked regions, and
no connection to any template file. Note that this means that the page will no
longer be updated when the template is updated.
To detach a document from a template:
1
Open the document you want to detach.
2
Choose Modify > Templates > Detach from Template
.
The page is detached from the template and all regions become editable.
Updating pages based on a template
When you make a change to a template, Dreamweaver prompts you to update the
pages based on the template. You can also use the update commands to manually
update the current page or the entire site. Using the update commands is the same
as reapplying the template.
For information on editing templates, see “Creating templates” on page 377 and
“Defining a template’s editable regions” on page 381.
To open and modify the template used to create the current document:
1
Choose Modify > Templates > Open Attached Template.
2
Modify the content of the template as desired. To modify the template’s page
properties, choose Modify > Page Properties. (Documents based on a template
inherit the template’s page properties, except for the page title.)
To update the current document to use the current version of a template:
Choose Modify > Templates > Update Current Page.
