• Keep the power cable away from rotating
parts.
If you lose control, the power cable may be
severed or get caught, and your hand or arm
could be drawn into rotating components.
• Never set the machine down until the applica-
tion tool has come to a complete standstill.
Rotating application tools can become hooked
into the shelf, causing you to lose control of the
machine.
• Never allow the machine to run while carrying
it.
Incidental contact may cause the rotating appli-
cation tool to become caught in your clothing; in
this case the application tool may inflict severe
cuts.
• Regularly clean the ventilation slits of your
machine.
The cooling air fan sucks the dust into
the machine housing, and excessive dust depos-
its can cause electrical hazards.
• Do not operate the machine in the vicinity of
combustible materials.
Sparks may ignite these
materials.
• Do not use application tools that require liquid
cooling.
Water or other liquid coolants can cause
(lethal) electric shocks.
Cause and prevention of backlash
A backlash is a sudden reaction to the jamming or
catching of a rotating disc, a supporting disc, a
brush or another accessory. Jamming or catching
causes an almost immediate standstill of the
rotating accessory, which as a counter-reaction
causes an uncontrolled machine to accelerate
round the clamping point in the opposite direction
of rotation as the accessory. If, for example, a
sanding disc is jammed or caught by the work-
piece, the disc with the edge at the clamping point
can dig into the surface of the workpiece and
cause it to jump or be flung out. The disc can
either jump towards or away from the user,
depending on the direction of rotation of the disc
at the clamping point. Sanding discs can break
while doing so. A backlash is the result of misuse
of the machine and/or wrong working method or
operation, and can be avoided by correctly
observing the following safety precautions.
• Always hold the machine firmly and position
your body and arms such that you can control
the forces of a potential backlash.
For optimal
control of backlash or reaction torque when start-
ing up, use the additional handle, if enclosed. The
user can control reaction torques or backlash if
suitable precautionary measures are taken.
• Never put your hand near rotating application
tools.
Application tools may hit back over your
hand.
• Never take up a position within the area in
which the machine will move in the event of a
backlash.
A backlash will accelerate the machine
in the opposite direction of the disc at the clamp-
ing point.
• Be particularly careful when working in cor-
ners, on sharp edges etc.
Prevent the applica-
tion tool from jumping back and being caught.
Corners, sharp edges or jumping back tend to
cause the rotating tool to get caught, resulting in
loss of control or backlash.
Special safety instructions for fine sanding
• Do not use oversized sanding discs for fine
sanding. When selecting the sanding discs,
follow the manufacturer’s information.
A disc
that is too large and juts out beyond the sanding
wheel poses a risk of cuts and can lead to catch-
ing, disc breakage or backlash.
Additional safety instructions
• Keep a firm hold of the machine with both
hands while working and make sure you are
standing firmly.
The machine is more safely
guided using two hands.
•
If explosive or self-igniting materials arise during
sanding, make sure to observe the processing
information of the manufacturer.
• Warning – risk of fire! Avoid overheating of
the sander and the material being processed.
Always empty the dust container before
breaks.
Grinding dust in the dust container (or in
the filter of the suction unit) can automatically
ignite in unfavourable conditions.
• Inform yourself with regard to the surface to
be sanded and the dusts and vapours poten-
tially arising. If in any doubt, do not inhale
even small amounts of arising dusts or
vapours.
Harmful/toxic dusts may arise when
sanding certain surfaces (various metals, miner-
als or woods as well as weather protection coat-
ings), which can cause severe allergic reactions
or serious illness. Do not inhale these dusts and
vapours and avoid contact. Materials containing
asbestos may only be processed by specialists.
• Keep your workplace clean.
Mixed contamina-
tion caused by dissimilar materials is particularly
hazardous. Light metal dust (e.g. aluminium) can
easily ignite or explode.
• Do not use the electrical tool if the cable is
damaged. Never touch a damaged cable and
remove the mains plug immediately.
Dam-
aged cables increase the risk of electric shock.
• Avoid overheating the product and work-
piece.
Excessive heat can damage the tool and
the product.
• Keep the handles dry and free from grease.
Slippery handles can cause accidents.
• Always heed the applicable national and inter-
national safety, health and labour regula-
tions.
Familiarise yourself with the regulations
applicable at the place of use before commencing
work.

Make sure there is adequate lighting when work-
ing with the product.
•
Please observe that the moving parts may also be
situated behind ventilation openings.
•
Symbols appearing on your product must not be
removed or covered. Signs on the product that
are no longer legible must be replaced immedi-
ately.
Read and observe the instructions for use
before using the product for the first time.
Risk of damage to the eyes!
Never look di-
rectly into the LED.
