Driver and Passenger Airbags
The driver’s airbag is fitted into the
centre of the steering wheel. The pas-
senger airbag is fitted into a compart-
ment above the glovebox. The cover
panels for both airbags are marked
‘AIRBAG’
.
In a severe frontal collision, the airbags
inflate in a fraction of a second to pro-
vide protection for the upper body of
the occupants.
Dependent upon the angle of collision
(front or near frontal) the driver and
passenger airbags may activate with-
out activating any other airbags.
The airbags deflate rapidly during the
collision to minimise any obstruction
to the occupants and reduce any dan-
ger of suffocation. During deflation it
is normal for smoke to escape from the
airbag.
WARNING:
A passenger will min-
imise their chances of injury if an
airbag deploys in a frontal colli-
sion if they sit as upright as possi-
ble with their feet on the floor and
backs against the seat backrest.
Always hold the steering wheel by the
outer rim. Never rest your hands on the
airbag cover or attach anything to the
steering wheel hub.
Do not put objects in front of or above
the dashboard where the passenger
airbag is located.
WARNING:
The path of an inflating
airbag must be kept clear. If an
object is placed between a person
and an airbag, the airbag might
not inflate properly, or it might
force the object into that person
causing death or serious injury.

Passenger Airbag Label
A warning label for the passenger air-
bag system is located on the passenger
side of the headlining above the wind-
screen, or on the sun visor if fitted.
WARNING:
Never use a rearward
facing child seat on the passenger
seat if the airbag is activated.
WARNING:
A front facing passen-
ger (child or adult) must never sit
on the passenger seat if the pas-
senger airbag is deactivated.
