Crank shaft float
After having tightened the main bearings, measure float A between
the crank shaft support on the flywheel side and the main bearing
half-rings.
A = 0.130 to 0.313 mm limit 0.5 mm
B = 23.05 to 23.10 mm limit 23.50 mm
If the play is not within the given value, check value B. Mount
oversized half-rings if necessary. See further on.

The following half-rings can be mounted by grinding B as shown in
the table:
1st Oversize.
Half-rings 1 and 2 + 0.10 mm on both sides of
the support.
2nd Oversize.
Half-rings 1 and 2 + 0.10 mm on one side of the
support and + 0,20 mm on the other.
3rd Oversize.
Half-rings 1 and 2 + 0.20 mm on both sides of
the support.
The rings could be damaged with ambient temperatures of
less than -35°C.
Crank shaft front and rear oil retention seals
Front oil retention seals 1 in the oil pump cover and rear oil retention
seals 2 in the flange on the flywheel side.
Replace the seals if they are deformed, hardened or damaged.
To replace:
- Thoroughly clean the housing
- Keep the seals immersed in engine oil for about half an hour.
- Insert it in its housing with a plug, exercising an even pressure all
over its front surface. The two surfaces A and B must be on the
same plane.
- Fill the inner cavity with grease and lubricate the retention lip with
thick oil.
Note: Before overhauling the engine and if an oil leak is noted in the retention zone of seals 3 and 4, this fault can be
rememdied by replacing the seals and pushing the new ones inwards by about 2 mm in relation to the previously
mounted ones.
If the seals are black in colour, this means that zones 3 and 4 of the drive shaft are hardened. In this case, remount a
seals of the same colour. If the seals are brown, zones 3 and 4 are not hardened and brown coloured seals must be
mounted.
