To connect the cables, do the following:
1. Do one of the following:
• For the ThinkServer RAID 500 Adapter, use one 700 mm (27.56 inches) mini-SAS to mini-SAS
signal cable. Connect the mini-SAS connector
1
to the port 0 on the RAID card. Then, connect
the mini-SAS connector
2
to the mini-SAS signal cable connector on the 3.5-inch hot-swap
hard-disk-drive backplane installed on the lower hard-disk-drive cage.
• For the ThinkServer RAID 700 Adapter, use one 700 mm (27.56 inches) mini-SAS to mini-SAS signal
cable. Connect the mini-SAS connector
5
to the ports 3-0 on the RAID card. Then, connect
the mini-SAS connector
6
to the mini-SAS signal cable connector on the 3.5-inch hot-swap
hard-disk-drive backplane installed on the lower hard-disk-drive cage.
2. Do one of the following:
• For the ThinkServer RAID 500 Adapter, use the other 700 mm (27.56 inches) mini-SAS to mini-SAS
signal cable. Connect the mini-SAS connector
5
to the port 1 on the RAID card. Then, connect
the mini-SAS connector
6
to the mini-SAS signal cable connector on the 3.5-inch hot-swap
hard-disk-drive backplane installed on the upper hard-disk-drive cage.
• For the ThinkServer RAID 700 Adapter, use the other 700 mm (27.56 inches) mini-SAS to mini-SAS
signal cable. Connect the mini-SAS connector
1
to the ports 7-4 on the RAID card. Then, connect
the mini-SAS connector
2
to the mini-SAS signal cable connector on the 3.5-inch hot-swap
hard-disk-drive backplane installed on the upper hard-disk-drive cage.
3. Use the 2-pin 200 mm (7.87 inches) RAID card to system board hard-disk-drive LED cable. Connect
one end
4
to the external connector on the RAID card and the other end
3
to the hard-disk-drive
LED connector on the system board.
Note:
The location of the external connector on the RAID card differs depending on the type of RAID
card. For information about the RAID card connectors, see “RAID card” on page 33.

backplanes
For connector location information about the RAID card, hot-swap hard-disk-drive backplane, and the
system board, refer to the related topics in “Locations” on page 13.
For information about connecting the appropriate power connector of the power supply to the backplane,
see “Hot-swap hard-disk-drive backplane” on page 35.
