8. Position the M.2 storage module on the system board so that the three plastic pins pass through
the corresponding holes in the M.2 storage module. Then, press the M.2 storage module downward
until it is secured by the latches

9. Connect the 6-pin signal cable of the M.2 storage module to the rear backplane signal connector
on the system board. Then, connect the SATA signal cable of the M.2 storage module to one of the
following connectors:
• The SATA connector 1 (ports 4-7) on the system board if your server has no backplane and AnyRAID
adapter installed. See “System board components” on page 36.
• The SATA connector on the Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 720ix AnyRAID Adapter if one is installed. See
“AnyRAID adapter, Host Bus Adapter, and PCIe interposer card” on page 28.
• The signal cable connector on the backplane for 3.5-inch drives if your server has one of the following
AnyRAID adapter installed:
– Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 110i AnyRAID Adapter
– Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 510i AnyRAID Adapter
– Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 720i AnyRAID Adapter
